Probably the first establishment of Rügenwalde, the country of Rügenwalde was at this time at the pledge possession of the prince Wizlaw II. of Rügen.

On 5 February 1271 the city Rügenwalde (Ruyenwolde) was mentioned the first time by Wizlaw II., duke of Rügen, in a deed of donation. With this document, issued on the castle Schlawe, conveyed the duke two house places and two "Hufe" 4) country at Rügenwalde to the monastery Buckow.
